TANGerINE theatre
An interactive long form improvisation performance.

A new kind of long form improvvisation performance in which the audience is able to change the multimedia contributions (used as scenographies) just manipulating the TANGerINE cube; the actors consequently improvise adapting the stories to the different changing settings.

Our idea starts from Jam Theater, a long form improvisation performance (www.longform.it ) conceived by the cultural association Con.Tea (Contaminazioni Teatrali). One of the most important concepts in impro performances is the “interaction degree” offered to the odience. In the Jam Theater performance, the actors don’t follow a preconceived play script, they inspire the stories to a theme or a word suggested by the audience at the beginning of the performance. How can we improve such interaction degree?
We tried introducing a new tangible dialogue device, the TANGerINE cube.

By manipulating the cube, the odience is able to switch through six different multimedia scenographies projected in a large screen used as a frame for the stage. Every scenography is associated to a particular story improvised by the actors so that the odience can switch the story by switching the scenography. We believe that in this way we can reach a new form of interaction in the performance.

The multimedia contributions have been developed by Mauro Carrafiello, Francesca Cianniello and Valentina Rutigliano, supervised by Lea Landucci, as their final project for the Master in Multimedia Content Design – Università di Firenze. They conceived six different scenographic videos using a particular evocative language able to suggest different stimuli and emotional feelings, images beyond any narrative intent, with empathic rather then descriptive value.
